Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) is an intestinal worm infection transmitted through soil contaminated with human feces and remains a public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in tropical regions such as Bali, with a prevalence of helminth infestation of around 24%. Pottery artisans in Kapal Village, Mengwi District, Badung Regency are a high-risk group due to their work activities involving direct contact with clay. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of STH eggs in the feces of pottery artisans. The method use was descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken from all pottery artisans in Kapal Village who met the inclusion criteria using a probability sampling technique. The results showed a fairly high percentage of positive STH eggs. Identified species included Ascaris lumbricoides as the dominant species, followed by hookworm, and Trichuris trichiura with the lowest frequency. The distribution of worm egg presence showed that respondents with poor personal hygiene had a higher proportion of positive eggs. The conclusion of this study is that STH worm eggs were found in the feces of pottery artisans in Kapal Village, with the dominant species being Ascaris lumbricoides. This study recommends regular health education, provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), handwashing facilities, and a routine deworming program for pottery artisans.
