Abstract
Naibonat Village is geologically dominated by highly porous coral limestone formations, resulting in hard water. This condition causes white scale deposits that clog water taps and leave sediment in cooking utensils. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of zeolite, cation resin, and a combination of zeolite and cation resin in reducing water hardness. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest design was conducted. Water samples were collected from a drilled well with a hardness level exceeding the quality standard of 500 mg/L. Water hardness was measured through laboratory analysis before and after treatment. The Kruskal–Wallis test showed a significant difference in hardness reduction among the three filtration media (p = 0.025). Pairwise comparison with Bonferroni correction revealed a significant difference between zeolite and cation resin (Adj. Sig. = 0.020). Zeolite reduced hardness by an average of 345.89 mg/L (56.29%), cation resin by 531.40 mg/L (86.48%), and the combined media by 467.63 mg/L (76.10%). Cation resin was the most effective filtration medium and has strong potential for household-scale water treatment. It may also provide a basis for further studies on media saturation and filtration duration. Kelurahan Naibonat memiliki karakteristik geologi didominasi lapisan batuan koral limestone berpori tinggi sehingga menghasilkan air sadah.
