Abstract

THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF ORGANIC MATERIALS ON THE PHYSICOCHEMICAL QUALITY OF ECO ENZYME ABSTRACT Eco enzyme is a liquid produced through the fermentation of organic waste and has various benefits in supporting household organic waste management. Differences in organic materials are suspected to affect the physicochemical quality of the resulting eco enzyme. This study aimed to determine the physicochemical quality of eco enzyme made from orange peels, vegetables, and a mixture of orange peels and vegetables, as well as to analyze differences in physicochemical quality based on the type of organic material used. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a posttest only design. The samples consisted of eco enzyme made from orange peels, vegetables, and mixed orange peels–vegetables with three replications. The observed parameters included color, aroma, pH, and turbidity. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using Kruskal–Wallis tests. The results showed that the mixed eco-enzyme had relatively better physicochemical quality with a light brown color and stable acidic pH, while the orange peel eco-enzyme had a good aroma with fresh acid characteristics. Vegetable-based eco enzyme showed the lowest quality compared to other treatments. In conclusion, there were differences in the physicochemical quality of eco enzyme based on the type of organic material used. Keywords: eco enzyme, organic materials, fermentation, physicochemical quality, organic waste PENGARUH PERBEDAAN JENIS BAHAN ORGANIK TERHADAP KUALITAS FISIKOKIMIA ECO ENZYME ABSTRAK Eco enzyme merupakan cairan hasil fermentasi limbah organik yang memiliki berbagai manfaat dan berpotensi mendukung pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga. Perbedaan jenis bahan organik diduga memengaruhi kualitas fisikokimia eco enzyme yang dihasilkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas fisikokimia eco enzyme berbahan kulit jeruk, sayuran, dan campuran kulit jeruk–sayuran serta menganalisis perbedaan kualitas fisikokimia berdasarkan jenis bahan organik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi experiment dengan rancangan posttest only design. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas eco enzyme berbahan kulit jeruk, sayuran, dan campuran kulit jeruk–sayuran dengan tiga kali replikasi. Parameter yang diamati meliputi warna, aroma, pH, dan kekeruhan. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan uji Kruskal–Wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa eco enzyme campuran memiliki kualitas fisikokimia relatif lebih baik dengan warna coklat muda dan pH asam yang stabil, sedangkan eco enzyme kulit jeruk memiliki aroma yang baik dengan karakteristik asam segar. Eco enzyme berbahan sayuran menunjukkan kualitas paling rendah dibanding perlakuan lainnya. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan kualitas fisikokimia eco enzyme berdasarkan jenis bahan organik yang digunakan.
