Abstract

THE EFFECT OF WASTE TYPE AND COMPOSITION ON THE BIOCONVERSION PROCESS OF ORGANIC WASTE BY BLACK SOLDIER FLY LARVAE (Hermetia illucens) YEAR 2026 ABSTRACT Poor management of organic waste can contribute to environmental pollution and the spread of diseases. One promising alternative for organic waste treatment is bioconversion using Black Soldier Fly larvae, which can efficiently decompose organic materials while producing valuable biomass. This study aimed to determine the effect of waste type and composition on the bioconversion performance of BSF larvae. A laboratory-based quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only without control group approach was employed. Treatments consisted of vegetable and fruit waste, food waste, and a 50:50 mixture of both, with five replications for each treatment. The observed parameters included waste reduction, Waste Reduction Index, and Feed Conversion Ratio. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA after meeting the assumptions of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that food waste produced the highest average waste reduction (395.2 g), WRI (39.52), and FCR (11.78), followed by vegetable and fruit waste (389.2 g; 38.92; 11.30) and mixed waste (387.6 g; 38.76; 12.33). Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences among treatments in waste reduction, WRI, or FCR (p > 0.05). Therefore, the type and composition of organic waste did not significantly affect the bioconversion performance of BSF larvae under the conditions of this study. Metode yang berpotensi diterapkan adalah biokonversi menggunakan larva Black Soldier Fly. Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh jenis dan komposisi sampah organik terhadap proses biokonversi oleh larva BSF dan menggunakan desain quasi experiment laboratorium dengan pendekatan posttest-only without control group. Perlakuan dilakukan pada sampah sayur dan buah, sampah sisa makanan, serta campuran keduanya (50:50), masing-masing dengan lima kali pengulangan. Parameter diamati adalah pengurangan sampah, Waste Reduction Index, dan Feed Conversion Ratio. Analisis menggunakan uji One-Way ANOVA setelah memenuhi uji normalitas dan homogenitas. Hasil menunjukkan rata-rata pengurangan sampah tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan sisa makanan (395,2 g; WRI 39,52; FCR 11,78), diikuti sampah sayur dan buah (389,2 g; WRI 38,92; FCR 11,30), serta sampah campuran (387,6 g; WRI 38,76; FCR 12,33). Hasil uji One-Way ANOVA menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pengurangan sampah, WRI, maupun FCR (p>0,05). Jenis dan komposisi sampah organik tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja biokonversi larva BSF. Disarankan BSF dapat dijadikan alternatif pengelolaan sampah organik rumah tangga serta dikembangkan sebagai metode pengolahan sampah organik.
