Abstract

BACTERIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF THE ORAL CAVITY IN ACTIVE SMOKERS AT BANJAR PENGAJI, PAYANGAN DISTRICT, GIANYAR ABSTRACT Background: Smoking is a habit that can affect oral health because chemical substances in cigarettes may increase bacterial growth in the oral cavity. Objective: This study aimed to determine the bacteriological profile of the oral cavity in active smokers at Banjar Pengaji, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency based on Total Plate Count (TPC) values and respondent characteristics. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with purposive sampling involving 41 active smokers. Bacterial colony counts were examined using the Total Plate Count (TPC) method on Plate Count Agar (PCA) media. Results: The results showed that the average TPC value was 4.542 CFU/ml, with the highest values found in the late adulthood group (28.450 CFU/ml), heavy smokers (13.652 CFU/ml), and respondents who had smoked for more than 5 years (6.763 CFU/ml). Conclusion: Increasing age, smoking frequency, and duration of smoking tend to increase the number of bacterial colonies in the oral cavity. Keywords: active smokers, oral cavity, bacteria, TPC. GAMBARAN BAKTERIOLOGIS RONGGA MULUT PADA PEROKOK AKTIF DI BANJAR PENGAJI, KECAMATAN PAYANGAN, GIANYAR ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Merokok merupakan kebiasaan yang dapat memengaruhi kesehatan rongga mulut karena kandungan zat kimia dalam rokok mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan bakteri. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran bakteriologis rongga mulut pada perokok aktif di Banjar Pengaji, Kecamatan Payangan, Kabupaten Gianyar berdasarkan nilai Angka Lempeng Total (ALT) dan karakteristik responden. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan teknik purposive sampling pada 41 perokok aktif. Pemeriksaan jumlah koloni bakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode Angka Lempeng Total (ALT) pada media Plate Count Agar (PCA). Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata nilai ALT sebesar 4.542 CFU/ml dengan nilai tertinggi ditemukan pada kelompok dewasa akhir (28.450 CFU/ml), perokok berat (13.652 CFU/ml), dan responden yang merokok lebih dari 5 tahun (6.763 CFU/ml). Simpulan: jumlah koloni bakteri rongga mulut cenderung meningkat seiring dengan tingginya usia, frekuensi merokok, lama merokok Kata Kunci: perokok aktif, rongga mulut, bakteri, ALT.
