Abstract
DESCRIPTION OF TOOTHBRUSHING SKILLS BEFORE AND AFTER HEALTH EDUCATION USING THE DEMONSTRATION METHOD AMONG FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SDN 18 SESETAN IN 2026 ABSTRACK Oral and dental health is an important part of overall health. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), only 4.6% of children aged 5–9 years and 5.3% of those aged 10–14 years brushed their teeth at the correct time. In Bali, the prevalence of damaged or decayed teeth among people aged ≥3 years was 31.6%. This study aimed to describe toothbrushing skills before and after health education using the demonstration method in fifth-grade students at SDN 18 Sesetan in 2026. This study used a descriptive pre-experimental design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest approach. The subjects were 34 students. Data were collected using an observation checklist. Before the intervention, 29 students (85.29%) were in the need guidance category. After the intervention, all students (100%) were in the very good category. The mean score increased from 38.24 to 99.56. In conclusion, health education using the demonstration method improved the toothbrushing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 18 Sesetan.
