Abstract

OVERVIEW OF DENTAL AND ORAL HYGIENE KNOWLEDGE AND TOOTH BRUSHING SKILLS IN FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SDN 2 SESETAN IN 2026 ABSTRACT Oral and dental health play an important role in overall body health because they affect speaking, eating, and social interaction functions. The results of the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) showed that the national prevalence of individuals experiencing oral and dental health problems was 57.6%. This study aimed to determine the description of the level of knowledge regarding oral and dental hygiene and toothbrushing skills among fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Sesetan in 2026. This study was a descriptive study using an observational method with a total sample of 52 students selected through Simple Random Sampling. The results showed that the highest level of knowledge was in the moderate category, with 25 students (48.08%), followed by the poor category with 23 students (44.23%), and the good category with four students (7.69%). The average knowledge score was 59.04, which was categorized as poor. The highest level of toothbrushing skills was in the needs guidance category, with 26 students (50%), followed by the fair category with 17 students (32.69%), the good category with six students (11.54%), and the very good category with three students (5.77%). The average toothbrushing skill score was 58.85, categorized as needs guidance. It can be concluded that most students had a moderate level of knowledge and toothbrushing skills that required guidance, while the average knowledge and toothbrushing skills were still classified as poor and in need of guidance. Keywords: Dental hygiene knowledge; Toothbrushing skills; Elementary school students GAMBARAN PENGETAHUAN KEBERSIHAN GIGI DAN MULUT SERTA KETERAMPILAN MENYIKAT GIGI PADA SISWA KELAS IV SDN 2 SESETAN TAHUN 2026 ABSTRAK Kesehatan gigi dan mulut berperan penting dalam kesehatan tubuh karena memengaruhi fungsi berbicara, makan, dan interaksi sosial. Hasil Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdes) tahun 2018 menunjukkan bahwa prevalensi nasional yang memiliki masalah gigi dan mulut sebesar 57,6%. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran tingkat pengetahuan kebersihan gigi dan mulut serta keterampilan menyikat gigi pada siswa kelas IV SDN 2 Sesetan tahun 2026. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan metode observasi dengan jumlah 52 sampel, dengan teknik Simple Random Sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingkat pengetahuan terbanyak berada pada kategori cukup yaitu 25 siswa (48,08%), kategori kurang 23 siswa (44,23%), dan kategori baik empat siswa (7,69%). Nilai rata-rata pengetahuan sebesar 59,04 termasuk kategori kurang. Keterampilan menyikat gigi terbanyak berada pada kategori perlu bimbingan yaitu 26 siswa (50%), kategori cukup 17 siswa (32,69%), kategori baik enam siswa (11,54%), dan sangat baik tiga siswa (5,77%). Nilai rata-rata keterampilan sebesar 58,85 termasuk kategori perlu bimbingan. Disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki tingkat pengetahuan kategori cukup dan keterampilan dengan kategori perlu bimbingan, rata-rata pengetahuan dan keterampilan menyikat gigi masih tergolong kurang dan perlu bimbingan.
