Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP OF LIPID PROFILE LEVELS AND BLOOD PRESSURE IN HYPERTENSION PATIENTS AT THE HEART POLYCLINIC OF KERTHA USADA HOSPITAL SINGARAJA ABSTRACT Hypertension is often referred to as the silent killer because it generally develops without typical symptoms but can lead to serious complications. Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure in the arteries, requiring the heart to work harder to pump blood throughout the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between lipid profile levels and blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the Heart Polyclinic of Kertha Usada HOSPITAL, Singaraja. This study employed a cross-sectional design within an observational analytical research framework. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling with purposive sampling, with 66 hypertensive patients at Kertha Usada HOSPITAL, Singaraja, who had fasted for 8-10 hours. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test, with a p-value of <0.05%. Pearson's correlation test results revealed a positive and significant relationship between blood pressure and total cholesterol (r = 0.433; p = 0.000), LDL (r = 0.287; p = 0.019), and triglyceride (r = 0.333; p = 0.006) levels. This indicates that increases in total cholesterol, LDL, and triglyceride levels tend to be followed by increases in blood pressure. Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between blood pressure and HDL levels (r = 0.150; p = 0.230), as the p-value was > 0.05. These results indicate that elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides contribute to hypertension; consequently, patients with dyslipidemia are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular complications. Therefore, routine lipid profile testing is essential as part of the monitoring and management of hypertensive patients. Keywords: Hypertension, Blood Pressure, Lipid Profile.
