Abstract
ABSTRAK Keberhasilan menyusui pada hari pertama masa nifas merupakan tahap penting dalam keberlanjutan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Penelitian ini bertujuan menggambarkan keberhasilan menyusui bayi pada ibu nifas di Puskesmas Hadakewa, Kecamatan Lebatukan, Kabupaten Lembata, Nusa Tenggara Timur, serta faktor yang berhubungan. Metode kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif cross-sectional. Populasi adalah seluruh ibu nifas hari pertama di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Hadakewa. Sampel berjumlah 30 responden menggunakan total sampling berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada 23 April–23 Mei 2026. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner karakteristik dan lembar observasi untuk menilai posisi menyusui, perlekatan bayi, dan keberhasilan menyusui. Analisis dilakukan secara univariat. Hasil menunjukkan 50,0% responden berhasil dan 50,0% tidak berhasil menyusui. Ibu dengan posisi menyusui tidak tepat cenderung gagal, sedangkan posisi tepat mayoritas berhasil. Perlekatan bayi yang baik seluruhnya berhasil, sedangkan perlekatan tidak baik berhubungan dengan kegagalan. Kesimpulan menunjukkan keberhasilan menyusui lebih dipengaruhi oleh teknik menyusui, terutama posisi dan perlekatan, dibandingkan karakteristik ibu. Diperlukan edukasi dan pendampingan sejak antenatal hingga nifas untuk meningkatkan keberhasilan menyusui secara berkelanjutan di wilayah penelitian. ABSTRACT Breastfeeding success in the first day of the postpartum period is an important stage in ensuring the continuity of exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to describe breastfeeding success among postpartum mothers at Hadakewa Community Health Center, Lebatukan District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional descriptive design was used. The population included all first-day postpartum mothers in the working area of Hadakewa Health Center. A total sampling technique was applied, involving 30 respondents based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was conducted from 23 April to 23 May 2026. Data were collected using a respondent characteristic questionnaire and an observation checklist assessing breastfeeding position, infant latch, and breastfeeding success. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that 50.0% of respondents successfully breastfed, while 50.0% did not. Mothers with improper breastfeeding position tended to fail, whereas most with proper position succeeded. Good infant latch was associated with successful breastfeeding, while poor latch was linked to failure. The conclusion indicates that breastfeeding success is more influenced by breastfeeding technique, particularly position and latch, than maternal characteristics. Health education and continuous assistance from antenatal to postpartum periods are needed to improve breastfeeding success in the study area.
