Abstract

Parasitic infections in pigs have the potential to cause zoonosis in farmers who frequently come into contact with animals. Early detection of parasitic infectionscan be done through hematological examination, especially by assessing thenumber and percentage of eosinophils as an indicator of immune response. Thisstudy aims to analyze eosinophil levels in pig farmers in Sidakarya Village andassess the relationship between the level of contact with pigs and eosinophil levelsas an indicator of possible parasite exposure. The study used a cross-sectional design with a total sample of 40 farmers who met the inclusion criteria. Eosinophillevel examination is carried out using the Complete Blood Count (CBC) methodusing a hematology analyzer. The results showed that the majority of respondentshad normal eosinophil levels (1–6%), while 15% experienced mild eosinophilia(>6–10%) and 2.5% experienced severe eosinophilia (>15%). No cases of moderateeosinophilia were found. Correlation analysis using the Spearman Rank test yieldeda p-value of 0.042 (p <0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.323, indicating aweak positive relationship between the level of contact with pigs and eosinophillevels. This means that the higher the level of contact, the greater the tendency foreosinophils to increase, which may indicate exposure to parasites or environmentalantigens on the farm. This study emphasizes the importance of improving personalhygiene, barn sanitation, and regular health checks for farmers as preventativemeasures against parasitic infections.
