Abstract
Background. One of the risk factors for people with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is the occurrence of Dyslipidemia which is one of the complications that cause death in coronary heart disease. In diabetes mellitus (DM), insulin resistance and hyperglycemia cause impaired functioning of HDL and the amount of HDL catabolized increases, as a result the level of HDL in the blood decreases. Objective. The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of HDL levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus at the Bali Royal Denpasar General Hospital based on age, sex. Method. This type of research is descriptive research. This research began in February 2020 until June 2020. The sampling technique was total sampling using secondary data taken from the Laboratory Information System of the Bali Royal Denpasar General Hospital from 2018 to 2019 with a sample population of 179. Result. From the results of the study, obtained low HDL levels of 59.8%, normal 34.6% and high 5.6%. Based on gender by female category, low HDL level was 32.3%, normal was 53.2 and high was 14.5%. In the category of men who have low HDL levels 74.4%, normal 24.8 and high 0.8%. Based on the age category ≥ 45 years, low HDL levels were 57.1%, normal 39.1% and high 3.8%. In the age category <45 years, low HDL levels were 67.4%, normal 21.7% and high 10.9%. Conclusions. It is recommended for people with DM to carry out control and examination of blood sugar and lipid profiles, as well as maintaining diet and drug consumption according to doctor's recommendations.
