Abstract

Hormonal contraceptives such as injections have a long working power, do not require daily use but, remain effective and the degree of reversibility, means returning to fertility after use is rapid. However, injectable birth control also has many side effects such as amenorrhoea, spoting (blood spots), as well as other hormonal contraceptives and also found complaints of nausea, headaches (dizziness), cloasma, weight gain. This study aims to determine the effect of the incidence of effects aside from the use of Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate injection contraception. The study was carried out in Clinic of Midwifery “B” with a sample of 30 DMPA acceptors. This type of research uses descriptive design with cross sectional approach. The results of the research conducted in Clinic of Midwifery Bujani found that based on the incidence of side effects of the use of Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate injection contraception on the characteristics of the most dominant respondents namely menstrual pattern disorders based on user’s age, weight gain based on duration of use the contraception, headaches based on user’s age and cloasma based on user’s age. It is expected that midwives can provide counseling about the side effects of using DMPA contraceptions so that they can intervene to manage them.
