Abstract

ABSTRACT Body mass index is a simple tool for monitoring nutritional status. Abnormal body mass index can cause disruption in the menstrual cycle. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of body mass index with the menstrual cycle of class XI in SMA Negeri 3 Denpasar. The research design is correlation analytic with cross sectional design, the sample of this study is teenage girls of class XI who are willing to fill in the google form as many as 75 people. The instruments used were the BMI data collection sheet and the menstrual cycle calendar. The results showed that of 58 respondents with a normal BMI value of 51 respondents (68%) had a normal menstrual cycle and 7 respondents (9.3%) who had an abnormal menstrual cycle. While from 17 respondents with abnormal BMI, there were 1 respondent (1.3%) who had a normal menstrual cycle and as many as 16 respondents (21.3%) who had an abnormal menstrual cycle. Statistical test results using the Chi Square test at a significance level of 95% (α ≤ 0.05), p value = 0,001. then there is a significant relationship between body mass index with the menstrual cycle in young women in SMA Negeri 3 Denpasar.
