Abstract
DIFFERENCES IN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF 70% AND 96% ETHANOL EXTRACTS OF (Gomphrena globosa L.) STEMS IN VITRO ABSTRACT Inflammation is a biological response that may cause tissue damage if uncontrolled, thus safer natural anti-inflammatory agents are needed. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of 70% and 96% ethanol extracts of kenop stem and to identify their secondary metabolites. Extraction was carried out by maceration, followed by phytochemical screening and in vitro anti-inflammatory testing using the Human Red Blood Cell (HRBC) membrane stabilization method. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro – Wilk and Mann –Whitney U tests. The results showed that the 70% ethanol extract exhibited higher anti-inflammatory activity than the 96% ethanol extract, with inhibition increasing along with concentration. The highest inhibition value was obtained from the 70% ethanol extract at 200 ppm (98.98 ± 0.00006), close to sodium diclofenac as positive control (99.03 ± 0.00000). Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, terpenoids, and saponins, which may contribute to membrane stabilization activity. In conclusion, kenop stem ethanol extract has potential as a natural anti-inflammatory agent and requires further in vivo investigation. Keywords: anti-inflammatory, HRBC, ethanol extract, kenop PERBEDAAN AKTIVITAS ANTIINFLAMASI EKSTRAK ETANOL 70% DAN 96% BATANG KENOP (Gomphrena globosa L.) SECARA IN VITRO ABSTRAK Inflamasi merupakan respon biologis yang dapat menyebabkan kerusakan jaringan apabila tidak terkontrol, sehingga diperlukan alternatif agen antiinflamasi dari bahan alam.
