Abstract

CARBOHYDRATE CONSUMPTION PATTERN ON NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND CONTROL OF BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS IN DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE 2 SUFFERERS IN THE WORKING AREA OF PUSKESMAS II DENPASAR BARAT ABSTRACT Patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 tend to experience over nutritional status. This can be caused by wrong carbohydrate consumption patterns. One of the efforts to prevent diabetes mellitus is by improving the diet through the selection of the right foods in terms of types of complex carbohydrates, the amount of carbohydrate consumption as needed and a regular eating schedule.. The purpose of research is to find out determine the pattern of carbohydrate consumption on nutritional status and control of blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus type 2 sufferers in the working area of Puskesmas II Denpasar Barat. This type of research is observational with a cross-sectional design and using purposive sampling technique with a total sample is 30 peoples. Primary data were collected by interview method and waist circumference measurement, while secondary data were collected by looking at the medical record book, namely the patient's fasting blood glucose level. Data presented with frequency tables and cross tables then analyzed using Chi Square statistical test. Based on the result, there is a significant relationship between the patterns of carbohydrate consumption (type, amount, eating schedule) with controlling blood glucose levels (p = 0.013, p = 0.000, p = 0.003). There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and control of blood glucose levels (p = 0.002).
