Abstract
The importance of balanced nutrition education for adolescents is to improve their knowledge that can affect their dietary consumption which will increase their nutritional status. Nowadays most teenagers use social media such as Instagram, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, and youtube to seek information, entertainment purpose, communication or educational media. This study aims to determine the difference in knowledge improvement of balanced nutrition in adolescents who are given balanced nutrition education through two different social media platforms Instagram and Whatsapp. This is a quasi-experimental study with two sample groups. This study was conducted from April 2021 - February 2022 at Public High School 3 Denpasar. The study sample consisted of 80 students, the sample is then divided into two groups with 40 students were being given the education through Instagram and Whatsapp. The data was collected then analyzed using SPSS for Windows using the Wilcoxon test and Independent Mann-Whitney test. The results of the Instagram group research showed that 85% of students had poor knowledge and 15% had sufficient knowledge, while in the Whatsapp group, 72.5% had less knowledge and 27.5% had sufficient knowledge. In the posttest results obtained 100% of students have good knowledge in both groups.The results showed that there is an increase in knowledge about balanced nutrition in both groups. Based on the results of the Independent Mann-Whitney test, there is a significant difference in knowledge between Instagram and Whatsapp group with a p-value of 0.040 with the average increase in the Whatsapp group being higher than the Instagram group.
