Abstract

A well is a means for providing clean water for people who utilize groundwater from infiltration of rainwater so that it is prone to pollution. Dug wells are a source of water that comes from groundwater and is easily contaminated. In order to avoid contamination or contamination of dug wells, knowledge and income of the community are needed in understanding the construction of a good dug well. Construction requirements for dug wells include well walls, well lips, well floors, and distance from pollutant sources. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between knowledge and income of the head of the family with the construction of dug wells in Pedungan Village, South Denpasar District. The users of dug wells in the Pedungan Village are as high as 1,230 families. This type of research is observational with cross sectional method. Data analysis using Chi-square test. The results of the study through statistical tests obtained the value of ρ = 0.000, which means that there is a relationship between knowledge, income and dug well construction. It is hoped that the heads of families who use dug wells will increase their knowledge about the correct construction of dug wells in order to minimize water pollution in the dug wells, as well as the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the dug wells itself for the sake of family health and avoiding sources of disease.
