Abstract
Hypothermia is one of the complications of sub arachnoid block anesthesia and caesarean section surgery which is very difficult to avoid. Hypothermia is a medical emergency condition that can arise when the body loses heat faster than heat production, which in turn can cause various negative impacts, including increased bleeding risk, myocardial ischemia, longer post-anesthesia recovery, impaired wound healing, and increased risk of infection. The effects of hypothermia on surgical patients can cause cardiac dysrhythmias, prolong wound healing, chills, shock, blood clotting disorders, heart and respiratory failure, and even death. Treatment for hypothermia in surgery includes: drugs, warm intravenous fluids, heating lamps, heating blankets for heating mats, warm humidifiers and adjustable room temperature. This study was conducted on three patients, namely one primary management patient and two patients as comparisons. The results showed that the decrease in the patient's body temperature occurred between the 25th minute to the 45th minute (temperature 35.4oC) after being in the operating room. Nursing interventions using an infusion fluid heating element (Animac) can prevent and overcome a decrease in the patient's body temperature in patients undergoing caesarean section with spinal anesthesia who are hypothermic. Keywords: Hypothermia, caesarean section, heating element
