Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP OF FOOD INTAKE WITH BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS AND CHANGES IN BODY WEIGHT OF MALNOURISHED CHILDREN (REVIEW OF LITERATURE) ABSTRACT Malnutrition is a disease of nutritional disorders which is the worst form of chronic energy and protein deficiency in toddlers which consists of 3 types of malnutrition, namely kwashiorkor, marasmus, and marasmus kwashiorkor. Some factors such as parental knowledge about nutrition, balanced feeding, insufficient economy, the presence of comorbidities and certain diseases, and it is worsened by unbalanced food intake making it easier for toddlers to suffer from infectious diseases. The purposes of this study were to determine the relationship between the intake with changes in blood sugar levels and changes in body weight. This research was a literature review in March 2021 with qualitative research methods. The subjects in this study were malnutrition patients, male, female and aged 0-60 months. The research data included data on respondent characteristics (gender, age), description of malnourished child patients, intake of malnourished patients, changes in blood sugar levels, changes in body weight obtained from the journals studied and then tabulated and analyzed qualitatively. The results of the literature review found that the average intake of malnourished patients in the sample was in the low category. Malnourished patients on average experienced hypoglycemia where the blood glucose value was 60mg/dL and the patients experienced changes in their body weight -2.98 SD. Based on the analysis can be concluded, 2 journals stated that there was a significant relationship between intake and changes in blood sugar levels, 3 journals stated that there was no relationship between intake and changes in blood sugar levels and 5 journals stated that there was a significant relationship between intake and changes in body weight (p = <0 ,05).
