Abstract
NURSING CARE OF INEFFECTIVE AIRWAY CLEARENCE IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC OBSTRUCCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE ABSTRACT COPD is a chronic disease characterized by progressive and persistent airflow obstruction in the airways and lungs as a chronic inflammatory response to exposure to harmful particles or gases, characterized by shortness of breath and excess sputum production. This writing aims to determine nursing care in COPD patients with ineffective airway clearance. Case study method on 2 patients managed with nursing care approach. The results of this paper indicate that, in the assessment, the subjective data and objective data equations were found, namely ineffective coughing, excess sputum, wheezing, ronkhi, restlessness, changing breath frequency and changing breathing patterns. The nursing diagnosis for both patients was ineffective airway clearance related to airway hypersecretion. Planning is prepared based on the SLKI and SIKI references, as well as the intervention of providing chest physiotherapy supported by evidence based practice. The implementation carried out on both patients was the same, including observation, therapeutic, education, and collaboration. The evaluation showed an increase in the discharge of secretions in both patients after the intervention was given. The application of chest physiotherapy in COPD patients who experience ineffective airway clearance can increase secretions. Giving chest physiotherapy is recommended to health workers, especially nurses to be applied to patients with nursing problems in effective airway clearance as an independent nursing action in the field.
