Abstract
THE DESCRIPTION OF NEWBORNS OF HIV-INFECTED PREGNANT WOMEN AT WANGAYA REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL DENPASAR CITY IN 2020 ABSTRACT Human Immunodeficiency Virus-infected pregnant women are at risk to transmit the disease to the babies they carried. It could happen in pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding. This study aims to identify newborns to HIV-infected pregnant women at Wangaya Regional General Hospital Denpasar City. This is a descriptive observational study. The data were taken from medical records, including maternal antiretroviral, gestational age, APGAR score, birth weight, and compatibility of birth weight with gestational age. There are 53 medical records available that met the inclusion criteria. 52,8% mothers had received and taking regularly antiretroviral therapy for more than 6 months during pregnancy. Prematurity was found in 9,4%. APGAR score at 1st minute after birth was 4-6 in 1,9%. The incidence of low birth weight babies served by 7,5%. There were 7,5% in small for gestational age. Most of the HIV mothers had received antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy which resulted in a decreased incidence of adverse birth outcomes. The suggestion in this study is that the prevention program mother-to-child transmission is optimized in primary care so that early intervention can be carried out so as to reduce the risk to both the baby and the mother.
