Abstract

Background: Cholesterol is a soft fat compound such as wax, made by the liver and also supplied from foods, especially animal products. The increase of total cholesterol levels is called hypercholesterolemia. Hypercholesterolemia is one of the factors that couse atherosclerosis which leads to coronary heart deseases. Purposed: The purpose of this study was to describe the total cholesterol level in traders in the Klungkung Galiran Market. Method: This research is a descriptive study conducted from January to May 2020 with 15 respondents obtained by incidental sampling technique. Total cholesterol levels were measured using the Aminoantipyrine Cholesterol Oxidase Deaminase Peroxidase (CHOD-PAP) method. Result: The result show that from 15 respondents, 40% has normal total cholesterol levels, 33,3% has borderline total cholesterol levels and 26,7% has high total cholesterol levels. High total cholesterol levels mostly found in the group of age 46-55 years (26,7%). Based on gender, hight total cholesterol mostly found in male sex (20%). There are 4 respondents who frequently consume fatty foods. Based on smoking habits there are 3 light smokers and 1 heavy smoker and mostly of the respondents have enough coffee consumption frequency (< 2 cups / day). Conclusion: The conclusion from this study is as many as 60% of respondents have above normal cholesterol levels. Keyword : Total cholesterol, traders
