Abstract
Propionibacterium acnes is an anaerobic bacteria found on the skin and is Gram positive which can cause acne. The phytochemical contains of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) leaves is saponins, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, and alkaloids which act as antibacterial. The content of starfruit leaves which has the potential as antibacterial, the purpose of this experiment is to observe the determine of differences in inhibition of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) ethanol leaf extract with various concentrations towards Propionibacterium acnes growth. The type of experiment used is the One-Shot Case Study using the Kirby Bauer discs diffusion method with five concentrations of 15, 20, 30, 45, and 60%, work control is amoxicillin, and the experiment control is ethanol 96%.The result showed that the average diameter of inhibition of zone starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L) leaf extract at concentration 15% (8.3 mm), 20% (9.3 mm), 30% (11.4 mm), 45% (13.0 mm) and 60% (12.4 mm). These five concentrations have medium until strong inhibition potential. Statistic analysis with One Way Anova the value of p(0,000)<α(0,05) so that there was a difference in the inhibition of Propionibacterium acnes growth at various concentrations of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) ethanol leaf extract. In Least Significant Difference test showed the significant different of inhibition zone in each extract concentration. In conclusion, this experiment provides that there are differences in the inhibition of each concentration of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) ethanol leaf extract towards Propionibacterium acnes growth with the largest diameter of inhibition zone diameter is 13.0 mm and the smallest is 8.3 mm.
