Abstract

Background, staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause infectious diseases. Nutgrass has antibacterial compounds such as, flavonoid, alkaloid, sesquterpenoid, tannin and saponin. The objective of the researches to measure the diameter of the inhibition of the ethanol extract of the nutgrass. Methodofthe research is a true experiment by using the post-test only control design and the disc diffusion method of Kirby-Bauer on the five concentration (50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%), positive control (cloramphenicol 30 µg) and negative control (ethanol 96%). The Result of the research shows the average diameter of the inhibition potensial zone from each concentration, such as 12 mm, 12,5 mm, 13,3 mm, 13,1 mm, and 16,1 mm. The statistic test of one way anova shows that the p value is 0,000 so it is found that there is inhibition zone difference of Staphylococcus aureus at the ethanol extract concentration of the nutgrass. In Least Significant Difference test showed the significant different of inhibition zone in each extract concentration. The five concentrations tested showed a drag in the strong category. Conclusion, Based on the result, it can be conclude that the ethanol extract of nutgrass have strong antibacterial activity, especially to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Keyword : ethanolic extract of nutgrass; Staphylococcus aureus; potential inhibition. Latar Belakang:Staphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri patogen yang dapat menyebabkan penyakit infeksi. Rumput teki memiliki senyawa antibakteri seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, seskuiterpenoid, tanin, saponin. Tujuan:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol rumput teki dan mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol rumput teki. Metode:Penelitian ini merupakan true experiment dengan desain penelitian posttest only control design, menggunakan metode difusi cakram Kirby-Bauer pada lima konsentrasi (50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, dan 90%), kontrol positif (kloramfenikol 30 µg) dan kontrol negatif (etanol 96%). Hasil:Penelitian menunjukkan rerata diameter zona hambat berturut-turut dari setiap konsentrasi yaitu 12 mm, 12,5 mm, 13,3 mm, 13,1 mm, dan 16,1 mm. Uji statistik One Way Anovamenunjukkan bahwa nilai p adalah 0,000 sehingga ada perbedaan zona hambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureuspada berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak etanol rumput teki. Dalam uji LSD (Least Significant Difference) juga menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada masing-masing konsentrasi. Kelima konsentrasi yang diuji menunjukkan daya hambat dalam kategori kuat. Simpulan: Dari penelitian ini ekstrak etanol rumput teki memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang kuat, terutama untuk bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.
