Abstract
Abstract. Almost 80 percent of maternal mortality is directly caused by complication during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period. Complication include postpartum haemorrarhic, sepsis, unsafe abortion, hypertension, and also prolonged labor. Infant mortality rate (IMR) is higher at neonatal period. The aim of this article is to describe maternal neonatal morbidity and mortality in developing country especially in Indonesia. There is a challenge and disparities to measure maternal neonatal morbidity and mortality that can make underestimate, and misclassification. Indonesia is a country that has thousand islands. Every island has a different level in maternal neonatal health. Maternal neonatal morbidity and mortality in developing country is related to many proximate determinants. The global and national efforts through making pregnancy safer initiative, accelerating report and record validity in every health care system, safe motherhood program, promoting antenatal care quality and competency of midwife or health care services.
