Abstract

ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY ON BELUNTAS LEAF ETHANOL EXTRACT TOWARDS Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus BACTERIA GROWTH ABSTRACT Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogen resistance bacteria that causes infections. Beluntas leaf contains terpenoids, saponins, phenols, tannins, and quinones which act as antibacterial. This experiment purpose is to observe the antibacterial activities of the beluntas leaf ethanol extract to Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This research is a true experiment designed with only pos test control group design, using Kirby Bauer diffusion discs method on five concentrations there are 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75%, work control is Ciprofloxacin 5 µg, and group control is ethanol 96%. Result Showed that the beluntas leaf ethanol extract is able to inhibit Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus with inhibition diameter zone of 75% is 26 mm, 60% is 25,4 mm, 45% is 18,7 mm, 30% is 16,2 mm, 15% is 13,1 mm, and group control 0 mm. One way annova and LSD testing showed the value of p < α (0,05) which means there are differences in growth inhibition zone of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus on various concentration of beluntas leaf ethanol extract. In conclusion, this experiment provides that there is an antibacterial activity from beluntas leaf ethanol extract towards the growth of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Keywords: Beluntas leaf ethanol extract; Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus; inhibition zone AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN BELUNTAS TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ABSTRAK Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri patogen penyebab infeksi yang mengalami resistensi. Daun beluntas mengandung senyawa terpenoid, saponin, fenol, tanin, dan kuinon yang berperan sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun beluntas terhadap Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah true experiment dengan rancangan posttest only control group design menggunakan metode difusi cakram Kirby Bauer lima konsentrasi yaitu 15, 30, 45, 60, dan 75% dengan kontrol kerja Ciprofloxacin 5 µg, dan kelompok kontrol etanol 96%. Hasil yang didapatkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun beluntas mampu menghambat Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus dengan diameter zona hambat 75% yaitu 26,6 mm, 60% yaitu 25,4 mm, 45% yaitu 18,7 mm, 30% yaitu 16,2 mm, 15% yaitu 13,1 mm, dan kelompok kontrol 0 mm. Uji One Way Annova dan LSD memperoleh nilai p < α (0,05) sehingga menunjukkan adanya perbedaan zona hambat pertumbuhan Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus pada berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun beluntas yang bermakna. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun beluntas terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
