Abstract

Background : Acne is skin disease that occurs because of sebaceous follicles blockage caused by Propionibacterium acnes. Some studies show that apple cider vinegar had antibacterial effect to Propionibacterium acnes. Objective : This study aimed differences in growth inhibition zone of Propionibacterium acnes at different concentration of apple cider vinegar study in vitro process. Method : This research used an experimental post-test only control design with disk diffusion method. This experiment using four concentration that is 12,5%, 25%, 50%,and 100% and using sterile aquadest as negative control and chloramfenicol 30 µg as positive control. Inhibition zone was determined by clear zone around the disk. Statistic analysis was done using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, One Way Anova test, and Least Significant Deference test. Result: The result showed that the average diameter of inhibition zone in concentration 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and 100% is 8,1 mm, 12,1 mm, 14, 9 mm, 18,9 mm. Based on One Way Anova and Least Significant Deference test, there is difference of growth inhibition zone of Propionibacterium acnes at various concentrations of apple cider vinegar. Concentration of effective is concentration 100% significantly inhibited bacterial growth. Conclusion: Apple cider vinegar can inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acne, and there are differences in growth inhibition zone of Propionibacterium acnes at various concentrations of apple cider vinegar. Concentration of effective is concentration 100% significantly inhibited bacterial growth.
