Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg. An unhealthy lifestyle, one of which is stress will increase blood pressure so that a coping mechanism is needed. This study aims to determine the relationship of coping mechanisms with blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the UPTD Tabanan III Health Center at 2019. The type of research used is non-experimental with correlational types and cross sectional approaches using non probability sampling with purposive sampling. The number of samples is 60 people. The study was conducted in March to April 2019. Data collection used the Brief Cope questionnaire and blood pressure measurements using a digital sphygmomanometer. The results showed the majority of hypertensive patients aged 66-70 years (38.3%), female sex (54%), work (61.7%), elementary education (40%), maladaptive coping mechanisms (63.3% ), stage 1 hypertension for systolic and diastolic blood pressure (80%) and (55%). Hypothesis testing uses Pearson product moment test, coping mechanism with systolic blood pressure with p = 0,000 and r = -0,910, and coping mechanism with diastolic blood pressure with p = 0,000 and r = -0,713. Conclusion: there is a significant relationship between coping mechanisms with blood pressure in hypertensive patients at the UPTD Tabanan III Health Center. Suggestion: nurses and students are expected to socialize coping mechanisms so that the blood pressure of hypertensive patients can be normal.
