Abstract

IDENTIFICATION OF METHICILLIN-RESISTANT Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ON THE HANDS OF SANITATION WORKERS AT TPS 3R KUBU LESTARI. Background: Waste generation in Pemogan Village reaches 51.8 tons per day, while TPS 3R Kubu Lestari only processes a maximum of 8 tons daily. This overload causes waste to accumulate and decompose uncontrollably, forming a moist, organic rich environment that supports the growth of pathogenic microbes, including Staphylococcus aureus. This condition increases the risk of bacterial colonization on workers, including the antibiotic‑resistant strain MRSA, which is difficult to treat and may transmit infections. Objective: To identify MRSA on the hands of sanitation workers and measure its inhibition zone against cefoxitin. Methods: This descriptive study included 28 respondents selected by total sampling. Hand swabs were cultured on MSA medium, followed by catalase and coagulase tests, and antibiotic susceptibility testing using the disk diffusion method according to CLSI guidelines. Results: Of 28 samples, 8 (28.6%) tested positive for S. aureus, 3 isolates (37,5%) were MRSA (zone ≤21 mm), and 5 (62,5%) were MSSA (zone ≥22 mm). Conclusion: MRSA colonization was found in 37,5% of samples collected from sanitation workers at TPS 3R Kubu Lestari. IDENTIFIKASI METHICILLIN RESISTANT Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) PADA TANGAN PETUGAS KEBERSIHAN DI TPS 3R KUBU LESTARI Latar Belakang: Volume timbulan sampah di Desa Pemogan mencapai 51,8 ton per hari, sedangkan TPS 3R Kubu Lestari hanya mampu mengolah maksimal 8 ton per hari.
