Abstract

OVERVIEW OF SOIL-TRANSMITTED HELMINTH (STH) EGG CONTAMINATION IN BASIL, CABBAGE, AND KANGKUNG (IPOMOEA AQUATICA) AT BADUNG TRADITIONAL MARKET, DENPASAR ABSTRACT Soi–Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection remains a public health problem that can be transmitted through the consumption of vegetables contaminated with helminth eggs. This study aimed to determine the hygiene and sanitation characteristics of vegetable handling, the presence of Soi–Transmitted Helminths (STH) eggs, and the types of helminth eggs found in basil, cabbage, and water spinach sold at Badung Traditional Market. This study was a descriptive study using purposive sampling technique. A total of 45 vegetable samples were obtained from 15 vegetable vendors. Examination was carried out using the sedimentation method at the Integrated Parasitology Laboratory of Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, while hygiene and sanitation observations were conducted using a questionnaire sheet. The results showed that hygiene and sanitation practices of vegetable handling by vendors were still not optimal, and 10 samples (22.22%) were positively contaminated with Soi Transmitted Helminths (STH) eggs, consisting of basil 26.67%, cabbage 26.67%, and water spinach 13.33%. The helminth eggs identified were Ascaris lumbricoides, Hookworm, and Trichuris trichiura, with Ascaris lumbricoides being the most dominant species with 9 eggs (56.25%). This study indicates that vegetables sold at Badung Traditional Market still have the potential to be contaminated with STH eggs. Keywords: STH; helminth infection; vegetables. GAMBARAN KEBERADAAN TELUR CACING Soil – Transmitted Helminths PADA SAYURAN KEMANGI, KUBIS, DAN KANGKUNG DI PASAR TRADISIONAL BADUNG KOTA DENPASAR ABSTRAK Infeksi Soi–Transmitted Helminths (STH) masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat yang dapat ditularkan melalui konsumsi sayuran yang terkontaminasi telur cacing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik higiene sanitasi penanganan sayuran, keberadaan telur cacing Soi –Transmitted Helminths (STH), serta jenis telur cacing yang ditemukan pada sayuran kemangi, kubis, dan kangkung di Pasar Tradisional Badung. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 45 sampel sayuran yang diperoleh dari 15 pedagang sayur. Pemeriksaan dilakukan menggunakan metode sedimentasi di Laboratorium Terpadu Parasitologi Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar serta observasi higiene sanitasi menggunakan lembar kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan praktik higiene sanitasi penanganan sayuran oleh pedagang masih belum optimal dan ditemukan 10 sampel (22,22%) positif terkontaminasi telur Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), terdiri dari kemangi sebanyak 4 sampel (26,67%), kubis 4 sampel (26,67%), dan kangkung 2 sampel (13,33%). Jenis telur cacing yang ditemukan yaitu Ascaris lumbricoides, Hookworm, dan Trichuris trichiura, dengan jenis terbanyak adalah Ascaris lumbricoides sebanyak 9 telur (56,25%). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sayuran yang dijual di Pasar Tradisional Badung masih berpotensi terkontaminasi telur cacing STH. Kata kunci: STH; kecacingan; sayuran.
