Abstract
CORRELATION ANALYSIS OF BODY MASS INDEX AND RANDOM BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS AT PUSKESMAS TEMBUKU I BANGLI ABSTRACT Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with high prevalence in the community. DM characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. Increased blood glucose levels are influenced by several factors related to nutritional status, one of which is body mass index (BMI). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between BMI and blood glucose levels when patients with DM at the Tembuku I Bangli Health Center. This research was correlational analytical study with a Cross Sectional approach. Sample consisted of 48 patients with type 2 DM, determined by purposive sampling technique. Data collected in October 2025 by direct measurements of body weight and height to determine the BMI and glucometer check to obtained the random blood glucose levels. Data was analyzed with the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that respondents were mostly obese (47.9%) and had high blood glucose levels (87.5%). IMT has a strong correlation with blood glucose levels of patients with type 2 diabetes at Puskesmas Tembuku I (p=0.002 and r=0.434). The conclusion of this study is the higher BMI, the higher blood glucose level at the time. Health workers are expected to increase education related to the importance of paying attention to BMI by maintaining optimal weight and conducting routine checks on blood glucose levels. DM memiliki gejala khas berupa peningkatan kadar glukosa darah. Peningkatan kadar glukosa dalam darah dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor berkaitan dengan status gizi, salah satunya indeks massa tubuh (IMT). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan IMT dengan kadar glukosa darah sewaktu penderita DM di Puskesmas Tembuku I Bangli. Penelitian merupakan studi analitik korelasional dengan pendekatan Cross Sectional. Sampel penelitian adalah 48 penderita DM tipe 2, ditentukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada Bulan Oktober 2025. Data dikumpulkan melalui pengukuran secara langsung pada berat badan dan tinggi badan untuk menentukan IMT, serta pemeriksaan langsung kadar glukosa darah sewaktu menggunakan alat glucometer. Data dianalisis dengan uji Rank Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penderita DM di Puskesmas Tembuku I Bangli sebagian besar obesitas (47,9%) dan memiliki kadar glukosa darah dalam kategori tinggi (87,5%). Indeks massa tubuh memiliki korelasi cukup kuat dengan kadar glukosa darah penderita DM tipe 2 di Puskesmas Tembuku I (p=0,002 dan r=0,434). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah semakin tinggi IMT maka semakin tinggi juga kadar glukosa darah sewaktu. Petugas kesehatan diharapkan dapat meningkatkan edukasi terkait pentingnya memperhatikan IMT dengan menjaga berat badan optimal serta melakukan pemeriksaan rutin pada kadar glukosa darah.
