Abstract
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT STERILIZATION OF REFILLED DRINKING WATER ON TOTAL Coliform AND Escherichia Coli COUNTS AT REFILLED DRINKING WATER DEPOTS (DAMIU) IN TABANAN REGENCY ABSTRACT Introduction: Refillable drinking water is a public drinking water source that must meet microbiological quality requirements. This study aims to determine the difference in total Coliform and Escherichia coli counts before and after ultraviolet (UV) sterilization, and to determine the effectiveness of UV in reducing bacterial counts at Refillable Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU) in Tabanan Regency. Methods: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design and a comparative approach. Twenty-seven depots were selected using the Slovin formula. Bacteriological examination was conducted using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method. Data were analyzed descriptively and using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to determine differences before and after UV treatment. Results: The results showed that before UV sterilization, 81.5% of samples were ineligible due to positive total Coliform and Escherichia coli, while only 18.5% were eligible. After UV sterilization, the number of eligible samples increased to 81.5%, with the remaining 18.5% remaining positive. EFEKTIVITAS STERILISASI AIR MINUM ISI ULANG MENGGUNAKAN SINAR ULTRAVIOLET TERHADAP JUMLAH Coliform TOTAL DAN Escherichia coli PADA DEPO AIR MINUM ISI ULANG (DAMIU) DI KABUPATEN TABANAN ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Air minum isi ulang merupakan salah satu sumber air konsumsi masyarakat yang harus memenuhi persyaratan kualitas mikribiologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengetahui perbedaan jumlah Coliform Total dan Escherichia coli sebelum dan sesudah sterilisasi sinar ultraviolet (UV), serta mengetahui efektivitas UV dalam menurunkan jumlah bakteri pada depo air minum isi ulang (DAMIU) di Kabupaten tabanan. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan design eksperimen semu (quasi eksperimen) dan menggunakan pendekatan komparatif dengan jumlah 27 depo yang dipilih menggunakan rumus Solvin. Pemeriksaan bakteriologis dilakukan menggunakan metode Most Probable Number (MPN). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan menggunakan uji Wilcoxon Signed_Rank Test untuk mengetahui perbedaan sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan UV. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum sterilisasi UV 81,5% sampel tidak memenuhi syarat karena positif Coliform total dan Escherichia coli, sedangkan hanya 18,5% yang memenuhi syarat. Setelah sterilisasi UV, jumlah sampel yang memenuhi syarat meningkat menjadi 81,5% dan 18,5% sisanya masih positif. Kesimpulan: Terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil sebelum dan sesudah sterilisasi UV (p<0,05). Efektivitas sinar UV dalam menurunkan jumlah Coliform total dan Escherichia coli dihitung berdasarkan jumlah sampel yang berubah status menjadi memenuhi syarat.
