Abstract

AbstrakThe waste problem in Indonesia is a complex issue due to the lack of public understanding of the consequences caused by waste, insufficient government funding to manage proper waste disposal, and compliance with regulations. Another factor contributing to the waste problem is the rising cost of living, which is not accompanied by a corresponding increase in knowledge about waste management and also the lack of community participation in maintaining cleanliness and disposing of waste in the proper places. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the existence of waste banks in encouraging behavioral changes in household waste sorting. The background of the research is based on the increasingly complex problem of waste accumulation and the need for sustainable waste management solutions from its source. Waste banks serve as a community intervention that offers economic value for sorted waste. From 496 households, a sample of 211 respondents was taken. Data was collected using a questionnaire and observations. The results of the T-test analysis show that the knowledge score of respondents increased from 13.79 to 14.67 with a two-tailed significance value of (0.000), the attitude score increased from 33.40 to 40.00 with a two-tailed significance value of (0.000), and the action level score increased from 14.47 to 19.14 with a two-tailed significance value of (0.000). This indicates that the effectiveness of the existence of waste banks with changes in household waste sorting behavior has been proven to have a significant impact, and it is expected that there will be active participation from the government, managers, and the community in enhancing awareness of environmental cleanliness.
