Abstract
ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY TEST OF RED ANDONG STEM EXTRACT (Cordyline sp.) ON THE GROWTH OF Staphylococcus aureus BACTERIA ABSTRACT Background: Pneumonia is an acute respiratory tract infection caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, a pathogenic bacterium that frequently develops resistance to antibiotics. Therefore, alternative treatments are needed, one of which involves the use of red andong stem (Cordyline sp.), which is believed to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Objective: This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of red andong stem (Cordyline sp.) extract against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Method: This research used a true experimental method with a Posttest Only Control Group Design. Results: The study showed that extract concentrations of 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% were able to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, with average inhibition zones of 9.39 mm, 9.72 mm, 9.74 mm, and 11.64 mm, respectively. Conclusion: Phytochemical tests did not reveal the presence of secondary metabolite compounds; however, the formation of inhibition zones at all concentrations of red ti plant stem extract (60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%) indicates antibacterial activity. PADA PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Pneumonia merupakan infeksi saluran pernapasan akut yang disebabkan oleh bakteri Staphylococcus aureus, yakni bakteri patogen yang sangat sering mengalami resistensi terhadap antibiotik, sehingga diperlukan alternatif pengobatan, salah satunya menggunakan tanaman batang andong merah (Cordyline sp.) yang dipercaya memiliki sifat antimikroba dan antiinflamasi. Tujuan : penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak batang andong merah (Cordyline sp.) pada pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode true experimental dengan desain Posttest Only Control Group Design. Hasil : Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi ekstrak 60%, 70%, 80% dan 90% mampu menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan rata-rata zona hambat masing masing sebesar 9,39; 9,72; 9,74; dan 11,64 mm. Kesimpulan : Uji fitokimia tidak menunjukkan adanya kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder, terbentuknya zona hambat pada semua konsentrasi ekstrak batang andong merah (60%, 70%, 80%, dan 90%) menunjukkan adanya aktivitas antibakteri. Konsentrasi 90% menghasilkan zona hambat terbesar terhadap Staphylococcus aureus, sehingga dianggap sebagai konsentrasi paling efektif. Kata kunci: Batang andong merah, uji antibakteri, zona hambat
