Abstract

THE EFFECT OF THE DISTANCE OF THE TOILET TO THE DUGGED WELL ON THE CONTENT OF E.COLI BACTERIA IN THE WATER IN PERERENAN VILLAGE, MENGWI DISTRICT ABSTRACT Clean water that meets health standards is essential to prevent waterborne diseases. Pererenan Village, located in Mengwi District, Badung Regency, relies heavily on dug wells as its main source of clean water. However, dug wells are highly susceptible to contamination by Escherichia coli bacteria due to their close proximity to latrines and poor sanitation conditions. E. coli serves as an indicator of fecal contamination, which can lead to infectious diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. This study aims to determine the relationship between the distance of latrines from dug wells and the presence of E. coli bacteria in well water. The research used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 30 dug wells that met the inclusion criteria were selected as samples. Data were collected through sanitation inspections, measurements of latrine-to-well distance, and water quality testing using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method. The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test at a 5% significance level. Results showed that 60% of wells had a latrine distance of more than 10 meters, while 40% were less than 10 meters. A significant relationship was found between latrine distance and E. coli content (p = 0.006; CC = 0.018). Community and local government involvement is essential to improve sanitation awareness, well construction, and safe distances. Keywords: dug wells; toilet distance; environmental sanitation. PENGARUH JARAK JAMBAN DENGAN SUMUR GALI TERHADAP KANDUNGAN BAKTERI E.COLI AIR DI DESA PERERENAN KECAMATAN MENGWI ABSTRAK Air bersih yang memenuhi standar kesehatan sangat penting untuk mencegah penularan penyakit berbasis air. Desa Pererenan, Kecamatan Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, masih mengandalkan sumur gali sebagai sumber utama air bersih. Namun, sumur gali sangat rentan terhadap kontaminasi bakteri Escherichia coli akibat jarak yang dekat dengan jamban serta kondisi sanitasi lingkungan yang kurang memadai. E. coli merupakan indikator pencemaran tinja yang dapat menyebabkan berbagai penyakit infeksi, seperti diare dan kolera. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara jarak jamban dan kandungan E. coli dalam air sumur gali. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain analitik observasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sebanyak 30 sumur gali yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dijadikan sampel. Data dikumpulkan melalui inspeksi sanitasi, pengukuran jarak antara sumur dan jamban, serta pemeriksaan kualitas air menggunakan metode Most Probable Number (MPN). Data dianalisis secara univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji Chi-Square dengan tingkat signifikansi 5%. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa 60% sumur memiliki jarak jamban >10 meter, dan 40% <10 meter. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara jarak jamban dan kandungan E. coli (p = 0,006; CC = 0,018). Diperlukan peran aktif masyarakat dan pemerintah desa dalam meningkatkan kesadaran sanitasi, memperbaiki konstruksi sumur, serta memastikan jarak aman untuk menjaga kualitas air.
