Abstract

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY WITH SICK BUILDING SYNDROME IN THE LABORATORY PATHOLOGY CLINIC PRIMA MEDIKA DENPASAR ABSTRACT Indoor physical environment such as temperature and humidity can affect workers’ comfort and health. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is a collection of symptoms experienced by building occupants due to poor air quality. Prima Medika Denpasar Clinical Pathology Laboratory located in the basement has the potential for temperature and humidity conditions that are not up to standard. The study aims to determine the relationship between temperature and humidity with the incidence of Sick Building Syndrome in Prima Medika Denpasar Clinical Pathology Laboratory staff. This study used a cross-sectional design, conducted in April at Prima Medika Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The sample size was 30 people. Data were collected through temperature and humidity measurements using a thermohygrometer and SBS questionnaire distribution. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The laboratory temperature ranged from 20°C–28.5°C and humidity between 38.5%–68%. A total of 60% of respondents experienced ≥14 SBS symptoms. The results of statistical tests showed no significant relationship between temperature (p = 0,866) and humidity (p = 0,136) with the occurrence of SBS. There is no significant relationship between temperature and humidity with Sick Building Syndrome in laboratory staff. It is recommended to pay attention to other environmental factors such as ventilation, lighting, and room cleanliness in efforts to prevent SBS. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) merupakan kumpulan gejala yang dialami oleh penghuni gedung akibat kualitas udara yang buruk. Laboratorium Patologi Klinik Prima Medika Denpasar yang terletak di basement memiliki potensi kondisi suhu dan kelembaban yang tidak sesuai standar. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan suhu dan kelembaban dengan kejadian Sick Building Syndrome pada staff Laboratorium Patologi Klinik Prima Medika Denpasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross-sectional, dilaksankan bulan April di Laboratorium Patologi Klinik Prima Medika. Besar sampel sebanyak 30 orang. Data dikumpulkan melalui pengukuran suhu dan kelembaban menggunakan termohygrometer serta penyebaran kuesioner SBS. Analisis data menggunakan uji Chi-Square. Suhu laboratorium berkisar antara 20°C–28,5°C dan kelembaban antara 38,5%–68%. Sebanyak 60% responden mengalami ≥14 gejala SBS. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara suhu (p = 0,866) dan kelembaban (p = 0,136) dengan kejadian SBS. Tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara suhu maupun kelembaban dengan Sick Building Syndrome pada staff laboratorium. Disarankan untuk memperhatikan faktor lingkungan lainnya seperti ventilasi, pencahayaan, dan kebersihan ruangan dalam upaya pencegahan SBS. Kata kunci: sick building syndrome, suhu, kelembaban
