Abstract

TESTING THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF BASIL LEAF EXTRACT ON THE GROWTH OF Escherichia coli BACTERIA ABSTRACT Escherichia coli is a member of the normal flora in the intestine, responsible for cases of diarrhea. Basil leaves contain flavonoids, saponins and tannins which can be used as antibacterials. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of basil leaves against the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. This research used an experimental type of research with a completely randomized plan. Testing the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of basil leaves used the well-diffusion method. The research sample consisted of a positive control of 0.001g chloramphenicol, a negative control of distilled water, four concentration groups, namely 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% with four repetitions for each group. The results showed that there was no antibacterial activity of basil leaf extract as indicated by the turbidity that formed around the well. The conclusion of this research is that there is no an
