Abstract

IDENTIFICATION OF Streptococcus suis BACTERIA ON LAWAR PLEK IN SUKAWATI DISTRICT, GIANYAR REGENCY ABSTRACT Background: Lawar plek is a traditional food prepared using raw pork, fresh blood, Balinese spices, and coarsely grated coconut meat. The use of raw pork meat and blood in food can result in Streptococcus suis Meningitis. In Bali, cases of Streptococcus suis infection have been reported with neurological emergencies resulting in death. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify Streptococcus suis bacteria in lawar plek in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. Methods: The type of research is descriptive research conducted by laboratory testing on 20 lawar plek samples. The process of bacterial identification was carried out through the stages of colony morphology observation, Gram test, catalase, and biochemistry with sugar media. Results: The results showed that the bacteria isolated on Blood Agar Plate had characteristics of gray-white colonies, round shape, flat edges, 1-3 mm in diameter, convex surface, α, β, and γ hemolysis, coccus-shaped, Gram positive, and 3 out of 20 catalase negative isolates were Streptococcus sp. Conclusion: Based on the tests carried out, it can be concluded that the characteristics of the 3 isolates of Streptococcus sp. bacteria identified are not characteristic of the Streptococcus suis species, but Streptococcus porcinus. Keywords: Lawar plek; Streptococcus suis IDENTIFIKASI BAKTERI Streptococcus suis pada LAWAR PLEK DI KECAMATAN SUKAWATI KABUPATEN GIANYAR ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Lawar plek merupakan makanan tradisional yang diolah menggunakan daging babi mentah, darah segar, bumbu khas Bali, dan daging kelapa yang diparut kasar. Penggunaan daging dan darah babi mentah pada makanan dapat mengakibatkan penyakit Meningitis Streptococcus suis. Di Bali, kasus infeksi Streptococcus suis dilaporkan terjadi dengan kedaruratan pada neurologis sehingga mengakibatkan kematian. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi bakteri Streptococcus suis pada lawar plek di Kecamatan Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar. Metode: Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian deskriptif yang dilakukan dengan pengujian laboratorium pada 20 sampel lawar plek. Proses identifikasi bakteri dilakukan melalui tahapan pengamatan morfologi koloni, uji Gram, katalase, dan biokimia dengan media gula-gula. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bakteri yang diisolasi pada Blood Agar memiliki karakteristik koloni berwarna putih keabuan, bentuk bulat, tepi rata, berdiameter 1-3 mm, permukaan cembung, terdapat α, β, dan γ hemolisis, berbentuk coccus, Gram positif, dan ditemukan 3 dari 20 isolat negatif katalase merupakan bakteri Streptococcus sp. Simpulan: Berdasarkan pengujian yang dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa karakteristik pada 3 isolat bakteri Streptococcus sp. yang diidentifikasi bukan merupakan karakteristik dari spesies Streptococcus suis, tetapi Streptococcus porcinus.
