Abstract
THE RELATIONS BETWEEN PEER SUPPORT WITH SELF-ESTEEM WOMEN THATS INFECTED BY HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV) IN YAYASAN SPIRIT PARAMACITTA ABSTRACT HIV / AIDS doesn’t not only infect people who have risky sexual behavior, but it is able to infect women of childbearing age as part of a low-risk group. Stigma and discrimination that lead to inequalities in social life trigger a degrading self-esteem in women with HIV, hence an intervention which can help to support the self-esteem of PLWHA women (people living with HIV / AIDS) is necessary through providing an assistance through the peer supports. This study aims to determine the association of peer support and self-esteem of child bearing-age women with HIV at The Spirit Paramacitta Foundation. The research design used non-experimental design with correlational and cross-sectional approach using non probability sampling with purposive sampling. The sample size was 57 people. A support Questionnaires and RSES questionnaires were used to collect the data. The results showed that 27 childbearing-age woman (47.4%) who were infected with HIV have gotten good support and 45 (78.9%) respondents had high self-esteem. Chi Square analysis was performed to test the hypothesis and resulting 0.000 of p value (α = 0.05), which implies that there is a significant association between support form peer supporters and self-esteem in women of childbearing age with HIV. According to the research outcome, it is expected that the foundation would be able to encrease the training to peer supporters related for how to communicate on PLWHA so that peer supporters can improve the building of trusting relationships on people living with HIV who enter the phase denial.
