Abstract
ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY TEST OF ETHANOL EXTRACT LEAVES OF BELIMBING WULUH (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) ON THE GROWTH OF Streptococcus mutans BACTERIA ABSTRACT Streptococcus mutans is a cariogenic bacterium in which carbohydrates change into organic acids which causes cavities or dental caries. Belimbing wuluh leaves contain active compounds including tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids which have antibacterial benefits. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of belimbing wuluh leaves on the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. This study was a pre-experimental design with a one shot case study design using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method using four concentrations of 20, 40, 60 and 80%, 30 μg chloramphenicol working control and 96% ethanol negative control. The results showed that the ethanol extract of belimbing wuluh leaves was able to inhibit Streptococcus mutans bacteria with an inhibition zone diameter of 80% by 6.75 mm, 60% by 5.58 mm, 40% by 4.20 mm, 20% by 3.20 mm. The Kolmogorov Smirnov test shows a value of ρ>α (0.05) so that it is normally distributed and the One Way Anova test shows a value of ρ<α (0.05) so that there are differences in the growth inhibition zones of Streptococcus mutans at various concentrations. The conclusion of this study is that there are differences in the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of belimbing wuluh leaves on the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Streptococcus mutans ABSTRAK Streptococcus mutans adalah bakteri yang bersifat kariogenik dimana terjadi perubahan karbohidrat menjadi asam organik yang menyebabkan gigi berlubang atau karies gigi. Daun belimbing wuluh mengandung senyawa aktif meliputi tanin, saponin, alkaloid, dan flavonoid yang memiliki manfaat sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun belimbing wuluh terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian ini merupakan pre- experimental design dengan rancangan one shot case study menggunakan metode difusi cakram Kirby-Bauer menggunakan empat konsentrasi 20, 40, 60 dan 80%, kontrol kerja kloramfenikol 30 μg dan kontrol negatif etanol 96%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol daun belimbing wuluh mampu menghambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans dengan diameter zona hambat 80% sebesar 6,75 mm, 60% sebesar 5,58 mm, 40% sebesar 4,20 mm, 20% sebesar 3,20 mm. Uji Kolmogorov smirnov menunjukkan nilai ρ>α (0,05) sehingga berdistribusi normal dan uji One Way Anova menunjukkan nilai ρ<α (0,05) seingga ada perbedaan zona hambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans pada berbagai konsentrasi. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun belimbing wuluh terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans.
